Humane treatment of shelter animals should not begin and end with just keeping them alive...
it’s also how we treat them while they’re in our care.

The San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter and Pet Project Foundation – a unique partnership

For over 20 years the San Clemente-Dana Point Animal Shelter and Pet Project Foundation - a 501(c)(3) non-profit - have been united in a unique partnership to provide pro-humane care to the lost and abandoned animals of our two cities. With Pet Project Foundation providing significant financial support, as well as donating over 20,000 hours of volunteer time each year, the shelter is able to ensure that every animal in its care will have a safe refuge until a permanent, loving home can be found.

Pet Project Foundation Volunteers PPF and the shelter are also partnering to help make our new cat room addition become a reality. Each organization has generously donated $150,000 to the construction of the expansion effort.

About the Pet Project Foundation

The Pet Project Foundation (PPF) is a non-profit, charitable organization formed in 2004 with the merger of two longstanding animal welfare groups – Friends of San Clemente Animals (FOSCA) and Animal Rescue Foundation of Dana Point (ARF). From the beginning, PPF (and its ancestor organizations) have supported the shelter’s operations. Here are just some of the activities that PPF helps fund at the shelter:

  • Total cost of medical care for all animals
  • Food
  • Portion of kennel attendants’ and dog trainer’s salaries
  • Adoption costs for older animals or those with special needs
  • Capital improvements to the shelter facility
  • Subsidizing the cost of spay/neuter programs in our communities
  • Third Chance program that brings dogs from kill shelters to our shelter for another chance at adoption
