THIRD CHANCE PROGRAM
By Ruth Rosen
Pet Project Foundation Gets Involved
Pet Project Foundation (PPF) has a new program at the San Clemente-Dana
Point Animal Shelter, which began in August. This volunteer organization,
in cooperation with shelter management, is giving dogs from shelters
that do not have a pro-humane philosophy, another chance to be adopted.
This "Third Chance Program" will give dogs that might otherwise be euthanized,
a chance to find a caring guardian in a new home. PPF and the shelter
were able to do this, because of the successful adoption rate this shelter
has been able to maintain.
The program is based on space available.
When there is space, PPF in conjunction with shelter Management, rescues
dogs scheduled to be euthanized only because their time has run out.
These dogs are handpicked, adoptable dogs. More than 28 dogs have been
rescued and adopted since the program began in August. PPF covers all
expenses for these third chance dogs.
Our volunteers and staff continue
to get involved both here and where needed. The next program is the
extension of the owner relinquished pets. Based on space available,
dogs from outside San Clemente and Dana Point can be relinquished for
a fee of $100. The dog must be younger than 7years of age, in good health
and pass a behavior and temperament test. Also, there cannot be a lot
of dogs of the same breed at the shelter.
For update information about
PPF and what they do, continue to go to www.petprojectfoundation.org.
You can then link up with www.Petfinder.com to view the adoptable animals
and learn a little about them. Through the joint cooperation of these
two websites, the adoption rate at the shelter is running at approximately
98%.
If you wish to donate to this program, please call: 949-595-8899
and leave a message. A volunteer will happily return your call. PPF
wishes to thank all the animal lovers who support this pro-humane shelter.
